LKC Musical Evenings

On our inaugural evening, Saturday October 2, 2010 at 8PM

We are proud to present CHUCK E. COSTA

Chuck E. Costa is a fresh voice delivering an interesting mix of unique, intimate and honest songs. He draws on a range of influences creating music unfettered by time or place, defying common labels like "folk-pop." Chuck's songwriting explores subtle yet significant themes with the tacit goal of challenging his audiences to think (or re-think) about what may often be taken for granted and his honest enthusiasm continually permeates audiences at each live performance. His powerful and sincere vocals (comparisons range from Jonathan Edwards to Michael Stipe) and acoustic guitar delivery seamlessly complement the lyrical content of the songs. Chuck's songwriting and performance skills have received national recognition from several festivals this year.

Chuck was raised in New York City to an Italian father and a Norwegian mother. After receiving a degree in philosophy from the University of Colorado and studying with poet Lorna Dee Cervantes, Chuck left Colorado to play music in the Northeast. He has shared the stage with many nationally touring acts including Roseanne Cash and the October Project.

Chuck has released three albums to date including his latest "Where the Songs Come From."

Chuck's has won awards from the prestigious Mountain Stage Newsong Festival (2004) and was recently featured on NPR's "All Songs Considered" open mic. Chuck was a finalist in the Solarfest (VT) singer/songwriter showcase (2004) He was a finalist in the Great Waters Folk Festival (NH) songwriting competition (2005) an was given honorable mention in the Telluride Bluegrass Troubadour Contest (2005). He has also been featured on the mainstages of both the Kerrville Folk Festival and the Falcon Ridge Festival.

Soon his new song "When the City Comes" will be featured in every STARBUCKS location in North America!

You will not want to miss this exceptional performance.

Our “Musical Evening”will be held IN THE ROUND  and will feature the incomparable ANSEL MATTHEWS, the wonderful duo OPEN BOOK and Lake Katonah’s own MONTGOMERY DELANEY

ANSEL MATTHEWS is a veteran singer, songwriter and performing artist who has a broad vocal range that is as delicious as it is wonderful. Drawing from many influences his sound is unique and special. Jazzy in one phrase and bluesy in the next. He can own any song that he sings and HE DOES! A big man with a big voice and a deep soul. We are deeply privileged to have him on our little stage.

OPEN BOOK is the duo of Michelle Rubin and Rick Gedney. They have been captivating audiences all over the east coast for quite a few years now. Their harmonies are at times absolutely perfect! Their songs glide along on their exceptional guitar work in the most beautiful way and their timing is impeccable. Both of them, accomplished musicians in their own right, make an even more incredible and totally wonderful duet.

Hey now!

MONTGOMERY DELANEY, aside from being a resident of Lake Katonah, has one of the most interesting biographies in the adult contemporary music genre. A former United States Marine and New York City police officer and currently practicing trial attorney, he has been thrilling audiences all over the world for the past 25 years with his poignant and insightful lyrics, sweet and sometimes biting melodies and his soaring and passionate vocals. He has shared stages with the likes of Richie Havens, Tom Rush, Sloan Wainright, Aztec Two Step, Martin Sexton, Cheryl Wheeler, Richard Shindell, Jill Sobule,  Rod MacDonald, Jack Hardy, David Massengill,  Bill Staines and Sarah Hickman to name a few. He is an award winning songwriter and performer who never gives it less than all he’s got!

There will be a $15 suggested donation

Part of the proceeds from each musical evening will be to benefit the Lake Katonah Club (Mr. Delaney’s performance will of course be gratis)

There will be a pot luck supper and LKC residents are asked to cook up something tasty!

Several volunteers will be needed.

If the first few nights are a success the Board will consider additional dates in the New Year. Please come out and support this wonderful, community building enterprise and in doing so, help raise much needed funds to take care of our little piece of heaven here at Lake Katonah
